Today we live in the information-oriented society, in the century of high-tech discoveries. One of the latest human inventions is the computer. With the advent of it our life has improved in different fields, especially in the sphere of education. The beneficial change was brought to the process of learning in education through the development and application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ICT embraces computer techniques, new principles of work with printed texts, with video and audio information and the use of Internet-resources in learning process. The period of acquaintance with ICT has already finished so it is time to sum up everything that has been done, and point out advantages and disadvantages of this technology.

On the one hand, ICT gives a lot of great opportunities to schools. First of all, the use of ICT makes teacher’s work easier. For instance, it is very tiring for a teacher to check up students’ tests, but with ICT this work is carrying out by computers and with much more speed and efficiency by the way. Also, computers allow a teacher to monitor and control students, to track their results. It can show what is necessary to repeat, to remember; where there is a weak spot of student so the teacher can take it into consideration and inform this student or his parents about the problems. You see that with ICT there is an individual approach to every student.

Furthermore, ICT allows students to become familiar with operating a computer. They are getting used to work with computer since their childhood so it will be easier for them to work with computers in adult life.
Moreover, ICT promotes self-learning of students and gives the chance of edutainment. It is much more interesting for children to get to know about something new through the Internet or through special tutorial programs, than to do it with the aid of books. In other words ICT can motivate children to study.

What is more, lessons with ICT are more captivating for students than traditional, as ICT can help the teacher to present new topic using some video or audio files to make this topic more attractive and clear. Especially even if it comes to students with naturally-developed visual perception (they are 83 per cent of the total), this kind of lessons is more available and easy of digestion for them.

On the other hand, there are several failings of these methods. To begin with, a lot of teachers are not able to work with computers due to lack of skill. Unfortunately, they are not provided with trainers that could help in managing ICT and in applying it to all areas of study. Further, there are some conservative teachers that don’t like this innovation so it will be difficult to make them teach using ICT.

Also, children have a different level of computer-competence. It means that it will be impossible to work with computers for some of them. Moreover, in some families there is no computer at home, so these children can’t prepare for classes. What is more, it is very expensive to provide schools with computers, notebooks, projectors and other technique connected with ICT.

In addition, there is a deficiency of qualitative computer courses, they are not fully developed. The authors of these courses are not encouraged.

Finally, it is bad if traditional teaching methods are ignored and students lose the contact with a teacher, which is very important. Computers can’t replace real teachers at schools, because after all, a teacher doesn’t only teach children, but tries to stimulate, to motive child and the machine made of iron can’t do that.

To sum up, there are both merits and demerits of Information and Communication Technology. In spite of its vital role and all advantages, it has some side-effects. However, it is not a big deal, we should derive maximum from it, and try to study the failings and to eliminate them, because the idea of ICT is brilliant and its methods help education a lot. Certainly, our future is with this technology.

I quite agree with Christina's essey about computer technologies. The main idea is rational combinating of working with computer and teacher. I suppose if we continue to develop this idea, we'll find an original way of the decision of the described problem (insufficiency of an operational experience of working with a computer). It would be very interesting to create this project with Christina. Thank you.

Having read this article, I should support Christy Pimenova from all points of view.
Because, on the one hand nowadays in a century of inventions and technologies, the role of the Internet and computers is very important in our life!!
Though on the other hand this big progressive push can be not completely mastered, and any problems at an initial stage will arise all the same!!
However I hope that soon all the Information and Technology of Communication becomes for us not novelty,
Also it will be accessible to each person and in each sphere of services!!!

I agree with Christy Pimenova =) People use computer regularry, some if the think that Internet is their life, I learn some new facts about using an Internet from this article. I use internet regularry, but I use it becouse i shoud do homework =) i can find different articles,which i need to Historycal lessons =) I know a lot of people who think that Internet is their life, I known that this is their appenian, bad it is very bad =(
